The iPhone 16 Pro Max PTA tax for 2026-27 works out to about Rs 107,700 on passport and Rs 119,200 on CNIC (filer) for the 256GB model, based on FBR’s assessed value of US$1,070 and an exchange rate of Rs 277. The 512GB and 1TB versions cost more (up to about Rs 135,300 on passport) because FBR assigns them higher values. DIRBS shows the final amount for your IMEI, so treat these as close estimates and confirm before you pay.

iPhone 16 Pro Max PTA tax at a glance
From 1 July 2026, phones valued above US$700 pay four parts on the passport route: 25% sales tax on the rupee value, Rs 17,600 regulatory duty and a Rs 16,000 mobile handset levy. The CNIC route adds Rs 11,500 income tax for filers and Rs 23,000 for non-filers. Every storage version of the 16 Pro Max is above US$700, so only the sales tax part changes between them.
The value used is not your purchase price. FBR assesses each model and storage size, and DIRBS links that value to your IMEI. The values below come from FBR’s Valuation Ruling No. 1999/2025 for new iPhones, dated 23 April 2025, as reported by PK Revenue and Pakistan Observer. The rate of Rs 277 is close to the interbank close of Rs 276.95 on 14 October 2026 reported by Mettis Global.
| iPhone 16 Pro Max | FBR value (US$) | Value in Rs (at 277) | Passport | CNIC, filer | CNIC, non-filer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 256GB | 1,070 | 296,390 | Rs 107,698 | Rs 119,198 | Rs 130,698 |
| 512GB | 1,278 | 354,006 | Rs 122,102 | Rs 133,602 | Rs 145,102 |
| 1TB | 1,469 | 406,913 | Rs 135,328 | Rs 146,828 | Rs 158,328 |
A one-rupee move in the dollar rate changes the 256GB passport tax by about Rs 268, so a few hundred rupees of difference on DIRBS is normal.
How the 256GB figure is worked out
- Value in rupees: US$1,070 × 277 = Rs 296,390.
- Sales tax at 25%: Rs 74,098.
- Add regulatory duty Rs 17,600 and handset levy Rs 16,000: Rs 107,698 on passport.
- CNIC filer: add income tax Rs 11,500 = Rs 119,198. Non-filer: add Rs 23,000 = Rs 130,698.
You can run the same sum for any value and rate on the ProInfoDesk PTA tax calculator.
iPhone 16 series PTA tax: 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max and 16e
The same ruling lists every iPhone 16 model. The table shows the passport and CNIC (filer) estimates at Rs 277. The iPhone 16e 128GB and 256GB fall in the US$501 to 700 bracket, where the handset levy is Rs 8,000 instead of Rs 16,000.
| Model and storage | FBR value (US$) | Passport | CNIC, filer |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 16e 128GB | 591 | Rs 66,527 | Rs 78,027 |
| iPhone 16e 256GB | 688 | Rs 73,244 | Rs 84,744 |
| iPhone 16e 512GB | 890 | Rs 95,232 | Rs 106,732 |
| iPhone 16 128GB | 666 | Rs 71,720 | Rs 83,220 |
| iPhone 16 256GB | 764 | Rs 86,507 | Rs 98,007 |
| iPhone 16 512GB | 955 | Rs 99,734 | Rs 111,234 |
| iPhone 16 Plus 128GB | 764 | Rs 86,507 | Rs 98,007 |
| iPhone 16 Plus 256GB | 868 | Rs 93,709 | Rs 105,209 |
| iPhone 16 Plus 512GB | 1,050 | Rs 106,312 | Rs 117,812 |
| iPhone 16 Pro 128GB | 878 | Rs 94,402 | Rs 105,902 |
| iPhone 16 Pro 256GB | 977 | Rs 101,257 | Rs 112,757 |

| iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB | 1,070 | Rs 107,698 | Rs 119,198 |
So the iPhone 16 Pro PTA tax starts at about Rs 94,400 on passport for 128GB, roughly Rs 13,000 less than the 256GB Pro Max. The iPhone 16 PTA tax is the lowest of the main line at about Rs 71,700 for 128GB.
Why other websites show higher numbers
Several Pakistani phone sites still list older totals. PhoneWorld (page updated 8 July 2026) shows Rs 182,710 on passport and Rs 213,631 on CNIC for the 16 Pro Max. Those figures cannot be reproduced with the FY2026-27 rates and FBR’s published value, and the page does not give a breakdown. The Opinion (24 July 2026) gives Rs 110,000 to 118,000 on passport, which is close to our estimate. Neither is an official figure. Only DIRBS or the FBR IMEI search is.
How the 16 Pro Max compares with the 17 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max
Newer models carry higher FBR values, so the tax rises with each generation even though the rate structure is the same.
| Model | FBR value found | Passport | CNIC, filer | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB | US$1,320 (VR 1999/2025) | Rs 125,010 | Rs 136,510 | Our estimate at Rs 277 |
| iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB | US$960 (VR 1999/2025) | Rs 100,080 | Rs 111,580 | Our estimate at Rs 277 |
| iPhone 15 Pro Max 512GB | US$1,140 (VR 1999/2025) | Rs 112,545 | Rs 124,045 | Our estimate at Rs 277 |
| iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB | US$1,070 (VR 1999/2025) | Rs 107,698 | Rs 119,198 | Our estimate at Rs 277 |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | No FBR value published yet | Check by IMEI | Check by IMEI | PhoneWorld lists Rs 204,954 / Rs 225,449 (unverified) |
The 15 Pro Max values in the 2025 ruling were set lower than when it launched, which is why a 512GB 15 Pro Max (about Rs 112,500 on passport) costs less to register than a 512GB 16 Pro Max (about Rs 122,100). For the 17 Pro Max, the PhoneWorld listing is the most quoted figure, but no FBR value for the 17 series has been published in news reports we could find. Full details are in our iPhone 17 Pro Max PTA tax and iPhone 15 Pro Max PTA tax guides.
Passport or CNIC: which route to use
The passport route has no income tax, so it saves Rs 11,500 for a filer and Rs 23,000 for a non-filer on the 16 Pro Max. You must register within 60 days of arrival, and the passport must show the entry stamp for that trip. Visitors can also use free temporary registration for 120 days.
The CNIC route works any time, which suits people who bought the phone from someone else or missed the 60-day window. If you are unsure of your filer status, check FBR’s Active Taxpayers List (ATL) before you generate the PSID, because a non-filer pays double income tax. Our guide to registering an iPhone with a passport covers the passport steps in detail.
How to check the exact tax for your IMEI
- Dial *#06# on the iPhone 16 Pro Max and note both IMEI numbers (physical SIM and eSIM).
- Open the FBR WeBOC Mobile Device Duty Information page and enter the first IMEI. It shows the duty and taxes FBR has set for that device.
- Alternatively, log in to DIRBS, choose the passport or CNIC option, and enter both IMEIs. The PSID shows the final amount.
- Pay the PSID through your banking app, JazzCash or Easypaisa. The PSID stays valid for a limited time, so pay promptly.
- Insert your SIM after payment. The PTA status usually updates within a day or two.
Common mistakes with iPhone 16 Pro Max registration
- Entering only one IMEI. The 16 Pro Max has two, and both must be registered or the second SIM may be blocked.
- Paying on CNIC when you are inside the 60-day passport window. That costs at least Rs 11,500 more.
- Generating the PSID as a non-filer without checking the ATL first.
- Assuming a used 16 Pro Max is taxed at a lower used-phone value. FBR’s lower used-phone values apply to commercial consignments, and PTA told the Senate in August 2026 that individual registration does not separate new and used phones.
- Waiting for instalments. The Finance Act 2026 allows them, but the facility was still not implemented in August 2026.
